Who’s Who in 2022, Business: Ocean View Estates
Published 2:00am 4 December 2022

A popular winery that is a favourite among locals and visitors took out one of the top gongs at the 2022 Moreton Bay Business and Innovations AwardS.
Ocean View Estates, located in the Moreton Bay hinterland, was named the winner in the Visit Moreton Bay Award for Tourism Business Excellence category.
Owners Tom and Kate Honnef said they were shocked and humbled by the win, saying they couldn’t do what they do without the amazing team behind them.
About Ocean View Estates
Ocean View Estates is situated in the rolling countryside of Ocean View in the Moreton Bay Hinterland.
The 150 acre-estate is family owned and operated, and provides an authentic experience where visitors can immerse themselves among the vineyards.
The first vineyard was planted in 1998, which began the partnership between Tom and Kate Honnef, and Cal and Rosie Irons.
In 2001, construction began on the winery and café, before their first vintage came in 2002.
The estate grows four varieties of grape - Viognier, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Ruby Cabernet, with additional varieties such as Verdelho and Merlot sourced from the South Burnett region.
Today, Tom, who is the Chief Winemaker, handcrafts the award-winning wine with the assistance of his daughter Hannah Hathway and her husband Andrew.
Over the years, Tom and Kate planted more vineyards, extended the winery, built an award-winning restaurant, a purpose-built function room, and added three cottages which people can rent out for extended visits.
Each cottage is designed to give you a comfy home-away-from-home experience, as well as a hint of luxury and opulence.
In the restaurant and Providore, visitors and locals can order dishes that are full of flavour and fresh ingredients, with a lot of the produce on the plate being grown on the winery’s onsite kitchen gardens.
There is also the opportunity for visitors to go on a behind-the-scenes tour to learn more about the art of winemaking, unwind in the vines with a glass or two and a cheese platter, or arrive in style in a helicopter.
Ocean View has also recently established a partnership with the traditional custodians of the land to provide cultural tours by respected elders to welcome guests to the land, culture and traditional food of the Jinibara peoples.
Speaking after their big win at the 2022 Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards on October 21, Tom said: “I’m very proud to have won – It’s always a team effort with our amazing family and staff”.
Ocean View Estates is also a member of the Queensland Tourism Awards Hall and Fame after winning multiple awards.
