Who’s Who in 2022, Music & Arts: Ghostlight Theatre Co
Published 4:45am 20 December 2022
Performers from Ghostlight Theatre Co have taken to the stage to delight audiences of all ages with a number of performances held throughout the year.
The new theatre company, which was founded in 2022, aims to create unexpected and unique theatre experiences with their controversial choices.
Yasmin Elahi from Ghostlight Theatre Co spoke to Moreton Daily in September ahead of the group’s first theatre production.
The group had done their own contemporary take on a popular movie from the 1950s called Twelve Angry Men.
“We are a brand-new community theatre group that only started this year, so we are very excited and nervous,” Hannah said at the time.
“We did a show earlier this year as part of the Anywhere Festival where we got great audience numbers, so we are hoping for that again.
The team of dedicated actors spent three months rehearsing and performed multiple shows at the KSP Theatre in Burpengary.
Twelve Angry Men was first screened in 1957 before the stage play was produced in the early 1960s.
Since then, it has been a popular choice for theatre groups across the world to undertake.
Written by Reginald Rose, Twelve Angry Men tells the tale of twelve jurors who must decide the fate of a teenager accused of murdering his father. Eleven of the jurors are convinced a guilty verdict should be handed down, but one juror has his doubts.
Yasmin said the group loved putting their own little spin on the classic tale.
“The show is quite dynamic and some of the scenes are very intense which even shocked me when we were rehearsing them,” Yasmin said during the interview.
“It’s quite a challenging story because it is up to the individual to create their own characters in the room.
“We have also decided to use gender neutral pronouns.
“Our philosophy is “not a safe space” because we don’t do anything that is safe creativity, and we make more controversial choices.”
About Ghostlight Theatre Co
Ghostlight Theatre Co is new to the scene in Moreton Bay, having been established in 2022.
The group was founded by three people and has about 30 members.
The group aims to create unexpected and unique theatre experiences for its members and audiences, which differentiates it from other theatre companies from the region.
It is hoping to grow and expand in the future, and would welcome other aspiring actors and members of the community who wished to join them to audition for upcoming plays.
Ghostlight Theatre Co is active on Facebook and Instagram as a way of attracting new members and sharing with the community what plays it is currently rehearsing.
