The Optilease Redcliffe pro-Am “couldn’t have gone any better” according to the club’s Director of Golf Chris Adnams.

Sixty-eight players entered the two-day (July 14-15) tournament which had a purse of $65,000 making it the most lucrative on this year’s adidas PGA Pro-Am Series.

Brisbane-based Aaron Wilkin took the top prize of $11,687 with rounds of 64 and 65 for a 13 under par total of 129 and victory by four shots.

Doug goes close

The 29-year-old, who had three wins in the pro-am series last year, now has his sights on joining the DP World Tour (the name of the European PGA Tour) next year.

He beat last year’s winner Doug Klein (68, 65), a touring pro who works in the Redcliffe Pro Shop, Sam Brazel (66, 67) and Peter Martin (67, 66) who had a nine under totals of 133.

“It (Optilease Redcliffe Pro-Am) was a huge success,” Mr Adnams said, “players were thanking us for putting on such a good event.

“We had two players shoot rounds of 64 on the first day (Thursday) which was windy.

“On Friday it was picture perfect conditions and the party hole was great fun.”

Simon Hawkes, from Tasmania, beat Wilkin in the post-tournament one-hole shootout for the top eight players.

Queensland’s Shae Wools-Cobb took the 65-metre chip-off competition, for all other entrants, which had a prize fund of $3000.

The future of the pro-am is secured for 2023 and 2024 with Optilease signing a three-year sponsorship with Redcliffe Golf Club.
