Work will start this month on a $1.135 million project to provide safer access to Dahmongah Lookout Park, Mount Mee.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said safety improvements were identified after the speed limit was cut from 80km/h to 70km/h on Mount Mee Rd following concerns  by residents in late 2019.

"We are installing a dedicated right-turn lane from Mount Mee Rd into Dahmongah Lookout Park to provide safer and easier access for road users," Mr Bailey said.

Safety upgrades

"Works will include widening the road to accommodate the new turning lane, resealing the road surface and improved line-marking."

It is part of the State Government’s $1.7 billion package in the budget to prioritise safety upgrades, improve driver education, make school zones safer and develop policies to reduce road crashes and trauma.

Work is scheduled to start this month, will be done between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, and take about 10 weeks, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Minister's plea

Mr Bailey urged motorists to drive to the changed traffic conditions during the works.

"These important safety improvements aim to reduce incidents between northbound motorists and vehicles turning right to visit the scenic lookout,” he said.
