A fast-growing Moreton Bay suburb will not be split, under confirmed changes to Queensland’s electoral boundaries.
Queensland Redistribution Commission (QRC) proposed using Young Rd, Narangba, as a new boundary between the state electorates of Kurwongbah and Morayfield.
It would have seen 3000 residents, two schools, sports clubs, a shopping centre and the state MP’s office - currently in Kurwongbah - switch divisions.
However, QRC received 29 objections, plus eight further comments and was “persuaded” to move part of Burpengary to Morayfield instead, leaving Narangba entirely in Kurwongbah.
Kurwongbah also gets the “bulk” of Dakabin relieving enrolment pressure on Murrumba, which the QRC says is “significantly” over its elector quota.
Murrumba also loses parts of Rothwell and Kippa-Ring to Deception Bay (the new name for Bancroft) and a section of Newport from Redcliffe.
A new district of Caboolture will ease enrolment pressure on Morayfield, which will lose Caboolture and Bellmere to the new district but gain parts of Burpengary.
Pumicestone sees areas west of the highway going to Caboolture, but gains part of Beerburrum, the rest of Elimbah and southern part of Coochin Creek from Glass House.
These changes come as Moreton Bay electorate are above the state average for enrolment with Murrumba “significantly over quota” and Morayfield one of five to follow by 2032.
