Works will begin soon on the City of Moreton Bay’s new Olympic and Paralympic site and Stage 2 of The Mill Central precinct.

The tender has been awarded for earthworks and remediation works at the Petrie site ahead of construction of a new 10,000-seat indoor sports centre.

Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre will be one of the first new Olympic venues to be built ahead of the 2032 Games.

“This will enliven the entire precinct and lay the groundwork for future growth investment in the site,” Mayor Peter Flanmnery said.

“The (Olympic) venue is designed to have multipurpose uses and lasting legacy benefits for the community before and long after the Olympics and Paralympics.

“It will also feature as the centre piece of Stage 2 of Mill Central, an innovative and lively new precinct in our City.

“This contract delivers enabling infrastructure to allow for the construction of new roads and associated services that will expand the site.

“It will provide connection to Dohles Rocks Rd in the north, creating a second entrance to the site."

Works will begin by June and with completion due by mid-2026.

Councillor Jim Moloney (Div 8) said the new work builds on the Stage 1 university precinct at The Mill.

“At the time, our university campus development was something no other council in Australia was doing," he said. "Now it’s going from strength to strength.

“Stage 1 has the award-winning The Mill Waterpark and Play Space and work will soon start on a $5.5 million Lakes Precinct Activation as part of the SEQ City Deal.

“The vision is to create a vibrant new precinct that could attract economic and residential development, community spaces, social and public amenities and more.”

A haulage plan will be developed to ensure there are no disruptions to the current access during construction.
