World-first to debut at Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival

Leading macadamia nut exporter Nutworks is partnering with the Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival to create one of the most unique flavour combinations in the world.

With a nod to the two superstars of Australian and South East Queensland cuisine, the macadamia and Moreton Bay bug, Nutworks has launched a limited-edition Moreton Bay bug-inspired flavour of macadamias.

When asked about the inspiration behind the eyebrow-raising flavour fusion, Nutworks CEO Kylie Shepherd Watson explains that paying homage to her childhood growing-up on Moreton Bay’s doorstep was the driving force.

“When I think back on my childhood in Redcliffe, two of my fondest memories were digging into some fresh seafood off a trawler, and cracking open some macadamia nuts with a hammer,” Kylie explains.

“There’s something truly special and unique about both experiences, that people outside of Southeast Queensland simply don’t get to the chance to experience.

“The opportunity to reflect on these memories certainly stirred up a real sense of nostalgia. It certainly sent me back in time and that’s exactly the story that this unique flavour combination tells. It’s truly authentic and unique to our corner of the world.”

Nutworks has been growing macadamias on Queensland farms and shipping them around the world for more than 20 years.

“This is without a doubt, our most unique flavour combination yet, and we’re really proud to be delivering a world-first flavour combination,” Kylie says.

Embracing flavours of the bay

Organisers of this year’s Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival, Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism, are excited to share with visitors a true taste of not only the festival, but of Moreton Bay, explains Chairman Shane Newcombe.

“Local produce is undoubtedly the true superstar of the Moreton Bay Region, from the bay to the farms,” Mr Newcombe says.

“Everywhere you turn over the festival weekend, visitors will find the diversity of our region’s local produce on show and ready to enjoy.

“There are countless opportunities to hear from and meet the local producers that are proudly handcrafting, growing, brewing, picking, and catching local produce.

“Our collaboration with Nutworks is inspired and boundary pushing. It reflects the values of the festival which is all about having fun and celebrating our region’s local produce.

“You can find the mighty Moreton Bay bugs on menus all over the world and now in its very own inspired flavour of macadamias.”

The flavour was especially crafted to be paired with white wine and added to cooking.

Try the Moreton Bay bug-inspired flavoured macadamias for yourself, exclusively at the Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival on July 31 and August 1 at Apex Park, Woody Point.
