Youth basketball program a winner

A basketball program aimed at connecting young people with each other and police has gone from strength to strength since its inception at the start of this year.

Moreton District Crime Prevention Co-ordinator Sarah Grayson says the program, which ran on Fridays during the school term, attracted increasing numbers as time went by.

“Since we engaged a professional basketball coach, the program has really excelled,” Sgt Grayson says.

“We’ve had lots of kids coming every week and the kids themselves have really grown in confidence.

“You can see how they’ve progressed in their skills and it’s great to see the team spirit and them encouraging each other.”

The free program, run by Redcliffe Police and open to young people throughout the region, will continue next year at Scarborough State School.

“Being there will enable us to run the program even if the weather is bad,” Sgt Grayson says.

The fun wrapped up at the end of term with a party attended by Inspector Craig White.
