Bribie Island
Cross the Bribie Island bridge over Pumicestone Passage and you'll find yourself relaxing as soon as you cross to the other side of this coastal paradise.
The Bribie Island area includes Banksia Beach, Bellara, Bongaree, Welsby, White Patch, Woorim, Beachmere, Donnybrook, Meldale, Toorbul, Godwin Beach, Ningi and Sandstone Point.
Nearly a third of the Island is uninhabited as it forms the Bribie Island National Park.
Bribie Island is the only Queensland island connected to the mainland by bridge. This allows easy access by car, about an hour and 20 minutes’ drive from the Brisbane Central Business District.

Who’s Who in 2022, Inspiring People: Janelle Ford
Ningi’s Janelle Ford only launched her business a little over a year ago – but already she’s won four awards recognising her contribution to the mental health and disability sector. The Director and Clinical Nurse Consult at Progressive Play won gold, silver and bronze at the Roar Awards for Start-Up of the Year, Business Growth and Business of the Year respectively and a silver in the Emerging Ausmumpreneur of the Year for Queensland/Northern Territory at the AusMumpreneur Awards in 2022.
Who’s Who in 2022, Inspiring People: Therese Lee
In June, Bongaree’s Therese Lee was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to nursing. The former Aeromedical and Road Retrieval Nurse, who was the manager of the Metro South Area Health Service and served as the president of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia, says the honour is also recognition of the work of the teams she’s been a part of.
