A residential suburb comprised of large acreage blocks, the suburb was named after Lake Kurwongbah, a dam providing water supply to residential areas. Surrounding suburbs of Kurwongbah are Whiteside, Narangba, Dakabin and Petrie.
Lake Kurwongbah is a peaceful expanse of water providing a scenic backdrop for the locals of Kurwongbah. While the lake is primarily drinking water supply, locals and visitors to the lake can still enjoy BBQs and picnics at parks surrounding the lake, canoeing, kayaking and paddling in designated zones, rowing and water skiing if members of permitted clubs and fishing from paddlecraft or shoreline in the designated areas.

History of Kurwongbah
Lake Kurwongbah was constructed during the 1960s and 1970s, it is the lesser of two dams built in the Pine Rivers area to supply water to the region. 'Kurwongbah' is thought to be an Aboriginal word for Sideling Creek, the lake's main water source.
Kurwongbah was the site for the Lakeside Motor Racing Circuit (1961), built to replace a circuit at Strathpine. It hosted the Australian Grand Prix in 1966.
