Art prize launches with outdoor display

Moreton Bay Art Prize is back, celebrating its 32nd year of supporting our diverse and talented artists.

The free annual exhibition at Pine Rivers Art Gallery, from May 30-July 18, showcases 36 artists shortlisted for the 2026 prize pool.

Selections were made by a professional panel based on concept, workmanship and originality.

The Moreton Bay Art exhibition starts with the Outdoor Art Prize, where work of six artists will be displayed on banners across the City in high-traffic locations until June 15.

“Council is committed to supporting and fostering a strong cultural presence throughout City of Moreton Bay,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.

“The Moreton Bay Art Prize, along with the outdoor display, provides equal opportunity for both upcoming and established artists to enter their works for public exhibition.”

Winners will share a prize pool of $10,000 with a non-acquisitive prize of $5000 for first place; $3000 for second; $1500 for third and $500 for a People’s Choice Award.

“We’ve invested $26 million into our libraries, galleries and museums this financial year and are committed to our Creative Communities Action Plan, ensuring City of Moreton Bay continues to support local arts into the future,” Mayor Flannery said.

The awards night is Saturday July 11, when winners chosen by Dr Simon Degroot, Program Director of Visual Arts at Queensland College of Art and Design at Griffith University, will be announced.

Members of the public can cast their vote for ‘People’s Choice’ until the last day of the exhibition, Saturday 18 July.
