Bunnings has the right gear for Christmas Appeal

Bunnings Rothwell has partnered with The Breakfast Club to donate hundreds of tote bags that will be used to make food hampers for people in need this Christmas.

The Breakfast Club, along with several other organisations and charities that make up the Redcliffe Community Care Network, will be putting together non-perishable food items for the homeless and people in need as part of the Community Christmas Appeal to ensure everyone has an enjoyable Christmas.

Knowing how much The Breakfast Club does to help the community, Bunnings Rothwell activities organiser Lani Hollywood says she is proud to partner with such an “amazing charity”.

“Bunnings Rothwell have worked really closely with The Breakfast Club for a long time,” Lani says.

“They are a great organisation who do so much to help people who are in need, which is why we are happy to help where we can.

“When they reached out this year to ask if we could help with the appeal, I was so happy because this is something I really wanted to be a part of.

“We will be donating 500 red and green bags which will be used to put the groceries in for the appeal.

“I have also spoken to the team members about doing a food collection as well. We did one recently for The Breakfast Club. It’s great to see the team get involved.”

Lani says she has been down to see the volunteers from The Breakfast Club a few times.

“Anytime I have leftover food I always go down to The Breakfast Club and drop it off. Recently I had 40kgs of sausages and I popped them in my car and drove down so they could cook them for people in need.”

With the appeal now in full swing, Lani is hoping those who can donate something will.

“Donating a few items is a really easy thing to do,” Lani says.

“Some people think with an appeal like this they have to go out to the shop and buy something, but if you open your pantry and see an extra tin of beans, you can donate that.

“It might only be a small thing to you, but it will make the biggest difference to someone.

“It could just make someone’s day or whole week.”

About the appeal

Non-perishable items that can be donated to the appeal include tinned stews and soup, tinned fruit and vegetables, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, long life milk, long life custard, spreads like Vegemite, peanut butter and jam, pancake mix, cake mixes, jellies, cordial, biscuits, soft drinks, nuts, lollies, chips and mince puddings.

Donations can be dropped off at The Breakfast Club (34 Cornelius St, Clontarf) every Tuesday and Thursday between 9am-1.30pm, as well on Sundays from 3-5pm.

All donations need to be dropped off before Wednesday, December 13.
