A long-time Redcliffe local who has dedicated nearly two decades to community radio has been recognised with the renaming of the 99.7FM station building in his honour.

The City of Moreton Bay has confirmed the radio station’s home at 75 Anzac Avenue, Redcliffe, will now be known as the Don Gailer Building, acknowledging Mr Gailer’s significant contribution to 99.7FM and the wider Redcliffe Peninsula community over the past 19 years

Mr Gailer has played a key role in the growth and success of the volunteer-run station, including developing a training program for aspiring community radio announcers. He has served four terms as president and helped lead community campaigns supporting causes such as Redcliffe Hospital, homelessness initiatives, Brisbane Convoy for Kids and annual Christmas toy appeals.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the decision followed a request to Council and a period of community consultation.

“Don Gailer has played a significant role in 99.7FM’s history and we are pleased to acknowledge his impact in this way,” Mayor Flannery said

Division 6 Councillor Karl Winchester said Mr Gailer’s contribution had extended well beyond the station.

“Don is a well-respected member of the Redcliffe Peninsula community, whose contribution has made a real difference for the best part of 20 years,” Cr Winchester said

New signage will be installed at the site, along with a history board outlining Mr Gailer’s contribution to the station and the local community.
