Council working magic at Fairy Way
The growing popularity of Deception Bay’s Fairy Way has prompted planning for a series of upgrades by Moreton Bay Regional Council – including a toilet block.
Other improvements in the pipeline for Boama Park include a dedicated off-leash area for small dogs, fitness equipment and a picnic area.
Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) says Fairy Way, created and maintained by volunteers, has become a surprise sensation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There’s something wonderful about discovering the hidden gems in your own backyard and Fairy Way has become a treasured escape for families outside the house,” Cr Ruck says.
“This miniature fairy world is bringing visitors from outside our region, which is great for local businesses, and it’s a popular destination for families to relax and unwind.
“But that booming popularity means we definitely need more amenities in Boama Park to cater for the crowds.”
Listening to locals
Cr Ruck says residents have been asking for improved amenities for some time.
“Locals have spoken with me about the need for a toilet block and I’m proud to be delivering for them.
“We are currently designing a suite of upgrades that include a new amenities block, fitness equipment, picnic area and pathway upgrades that will be built in over the next two years.
“Residents and park users can expect to see concept designs by 2022 and they will be given the opportunity to provide feedback.”
She says the small dog off-leash area is expected to be completed this financial year.
“Fairy Way is an iconic part of Deception Bay that is as much a part of the fabric of the area as the bay itself.”
Moreton Bay Community Rocks Fairy Way co-administrator Natalie Poole welcomed news of the upgrades.
“(The toilet block) will mean the day care centres can come and visit without having to pack up if a child needs to go to the toilet and people can come and have picnics and use the facilities,” she says.
