COVID-19 UPDATE: One new community case

There has been one new case of COVID-19 in the community and one in hotel quarantine.

The case is a 17-year-old girl, who is a Indooroopilly State High School student. It is believed she has been infectious since July 27, but only became unwell yesterday. She was tested yesterday and her positive result was confirmed last night.

The school has been closed today for deep cleaning.

Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says the girl is from a family of five, who live at Taringa. At this stage it is not known what variant she has.

"Because this is an unknown, unlinked case at this stage ... until we get more information, masks are more important than ever," Mrs D'Ath says.

It brings Queensland's total number of active cases to 43. There have been more than 16,000 tests in the past 24 hours and more than 11,000 vaccinations administered.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young says she is concerned about the new case because she is 'struggling to understand how she acquired it'. 

Dr Young says there have been 13 incursions of the virus in Queensland during the past six weeks and at any time someone without symptoms could have passed it on to someone else.

She is urging Queenslanders to be cautious until the vast majority of the population is vaccinated, and is calling on those in the 60+ years age group to get vaccinated because they are in the high-risk group of serious illness or death.

People living in greater Brisbane, or those who have visited the area are being urged to keep an eye on the Queensland Health website for possible exposure sites, which will be added today.

If you have been to this location in Queensland at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. complete the online contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. A pop up window will appear with specific advice for that location and a link to the form

4. continue to quarantine even after receiving a negative result. After you complete the contact tracing form you will be contacted by Queensland Health

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. continue to quarantine until you receive a negative result
4. enter your details into the contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. You will not be contacted by Queensland Health unless additional information about the exposure changes the risk level
5. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.

1. get tested at your earliest convenience but you do not need to quarantine until you receive a negative test result
