COVID-19 Update - August 3

Sixteen new locally acquired COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Queensland in the past 24 hours, all of them linked to the Indooroopilly Delta cluster.

Deputy Premier and Member for Murrumba Steven Miles says 10 of the cases are linked to schools - one to Indooroopilly State High School, two to Brisbane Girls' Grammar, four to Brisbane Grammar and three to Ironside State School.

Five of the cases are linked to household contacts and one to a neighbour, taking the total number of cases in the cluster to 47.

Yesterday 34,718 people were tested for COVID-19 and more than 10,000 people vaccinated.

"We are extending the hours and new (testing) sites are opening up  - I thank everyone who waited to get their test," Mr Miles says.

Health Minister and Member for Redcliffe Yvette D'Ath says the message during the current lockdown is simple.

"Don't ask yourself 'can I go out?', ask yourself 'should I go out"'," Mrs D'Ath says.

"We are in different times with a different virus and we must act differently.

"If you don't have to go out, stay home - if you are out moving around, the virus is moving around."

More vaccines on the way

Mrs D'Ath says the state government has welcomed the federal government's offer of 150,000 more doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine and will work with GPs and pharmacies to deliver them.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young is urging people over 60 to get vaccinated with Astrazeneca.

"Anyone who's 60 or older, come and have your first dose," Dr Young says.

She says people who have had one dose can have their second dose of Astazeneca if it has been eight weeks since the first.

Dr Young says she will only lift the lockdown on Sunday if people with new cases of COVID-19 have been in quarantine for the entirety of their infectious period.

"Someone who's been in quarantine for all of their infectious period doesn't worry me," she says.

Dr Young reiterated Mrs D'Ath's call for people to stay home.

"If you have to question whether you're an essential worker, you're probably not."

Close contacts

If you have been to this location in Queensland at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. complete the online contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. A pop up window will appear with specific advice for that location and a link to the form
   If you are unable to complete the contact tracing form please call 134 COVID (134 268)
4. continue to quarantine even after receiving a negative result. After you complete the contact tracing form you will be contacted by Queensland Health
5. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result
6. as you are a close contact, you and anyone who resides at your home or accommodation are required to quarantine for 14 days from the time you were at the venue.

Casual contacts

If you have been to any of the below locations at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. continue to quarantine until you receive a negative result
4. enter your details into the contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. You will not be contacted by Queensland Health unless additional information about the exposure changes the risk level
5. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.

Low risk contacts

If you have been to any of the below locations at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. get tested at your earliest convenience but you do not need to quarantine until you receive a negative test result
2. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
