Creativity key to learning at Grace Primary School

Grace Lutheran Primary School’s award-winning Performing Arts program is loved by the community and an integral part of the school.

Pupils from every year level have one lesson each week which involves musicality, composition, rhythm, speech and drama and other aspects of performance.

In Year 2, a full violin course is provided and in Year 3 a full band immersion program is scheduled.

Alongside the Performing Arts lessons is the co-curricular program where students can take part in a wide range of dance activities, choosing from jazz, contemporary, hip hop and ballet. There are also classical rock and musical theatre private and small group opportunities available.

Why do we see Performing Arts as such an important component of our school community?

Principal Trudy Moala says research shows students who engage in musical theatre, dance or learning an instrument are known to develop discipline in their studies and the skills learnt in these programs can also transfer to their academic, social and emotional development.

“But more than this, our students in the co-curricular program become a community of students who work together in regular small concerts and large musical productions too,” Mrs Moala says.

“What fun it is to be part of The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz, Aladdin or Cats Junior musical extravaganzas. Our students love performing at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre in these large events.”
