The work of 10 artists who like to bend and break the rules is on show at the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre.

The Scratching the Surface exhibition features the amazing and varied works of printmakers and artists who have created their interpretation of the theme using a range of surfaces.

Venue manager Julie Thompson says the works in the exhibition scratch the surface in a literal and metaphorical sense, with surfaces including paper, fabric, clay, timber and plastic.

Among the exhibitors are Cheryl Mortimer, John Stegeman, Dierdre Nelson, Sue Gardner, Chris Miles, Noeline Machan, Lorraine Emerson, Karen Quinn, Robert Bradfield and Bev Stegeman.

“These artists like to bend and break the rules and manipulate their chosen media to push the boundaries,” Julie says.

“You’ll love the lengths they’ve gone to bring art that makes you gasp, gaze and guess.

“Come see their ‘scratchings’ and you’ll itch for more.”

Scratching the Surface is at the Matthew Flinders Art Gallery, Bribie Island Community Arts Centre until April 10.

The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 9am-4pm and Sundays 9am-1pm.
