Sue's Bar and Grill, Bongaree
CHRIS and Sue Venderley are bringing American barbecue to Bongaree, just the way they like it, with an Aussie twist. Sue's Bar and Grill's smoked ribs, rump steak and secret sauces are a must try.
After moving to Australia 10 years ago, Chris saw opening Sue's Bar and Grill in 2017 as a great opportunity for the couple to introduce Bribie Island to some flavours from his home. Sue has been a resident of Bribie Island for more than 25 years and instantly gained an understanding of the ingredients used for barbecue. Being a trained chef, Sue was able to quickly find ways to work with the ingredients after discovering the flavours of barbecue while in the States with Chris.
The couple are proud to say they have now developed flavours, with a little help from Chris's family, that they are proud to call their own.
They're known for a number of things including their homemade sauces, rib and rump special and barbecue smoked ribs.
“I think that’s what makes a difference on the island, We have variety that no one else has, you’d have to go in to the city to get what we have,” Chris says.
With spectacular views of Pumicestone Passage, Sue's Bar and Grill is more than just a restaurant - with Sunday sessions and karaoke, it's an ideal meeting place.
They are open Wednesday to Friday for lunch (midday-3pm) and dinner (from 5pm).

2 Sisters Deli Cafe, Bellara
Tamara Noll has taken what she learned in the Melbourne cafe and restaurant scene and used to it bring her Bribie Island cafe to life with quirky and unique food styles.
After relocating from Melbourne in August 2017, the qualified chef moved to the Island and bought 2 Sisters Deli Cafe in May. “The food on offer is different to every other cafe because it is homemade and not commercially produced in bulk,” Tamara says.
“Flavour inspirations are from around the world which I have gained with recipes from friends and from my travels. We are known for my homemade tiramisu slice, my sausage rolls, my salads and our coffee, Merlo coffee.”
Tamara loves variety, and so do her customers. Each day she goes out and buys fresh ingredients, once inspiration hits and she decides what to make for the following day. Everyday she lets customers know what's on the menu by sharing pictures of her in-demand salads on her social media.
