Dolphins reveal next signing

The Dolphins are bringing another Queenslander home after securing the signature of State of Origin representative Edrick Lee.

Lee will finish the season with the Newcastle Knights and move back to Queensland after inking a two-year deal to be part of the Dolphins’ foundation year in the NRL.

Born in Brisbane, Lee left his home state as a teenager to play with the Canberra Raiders.

He has since played 121 NRL matches and scored 60 tries for the Raiders, Sharks and Knights, and has also represented the Indigenous All Stars team.

A series of foot injuries kept him off the field in 2021, but Lee has now made a strong return to the NRL, scoring a try in the Knights’ Magic Round victory over the Bulldogs last week.

And now he will bring his partner – who hails from the Dolphins’ territory of Brisbane’s northern corridor – and his young family back to the Sunshine State.

This will not be the first time Lee has worked under Dolphins’ head coach Wayne Bennett.

Lee made a memorable Origin debut for Queensland in the final game of the 2020 series, scoring a try on the way to the Maroons’ shock series-deciding victory.

Lee and Bennett will reunite for the Dolphins’ historic entry to the NRL.

“We have seen Edrick’s class at the highest level and are excited he will be part of the Dolphins’ first ever team,” Dolphins’ CEO Terry Reader said.

“We have also admired the fight Edrick has shown to make his way back from a series of foot injuries to re-establish himself in the NRL.

“It is this type of attitude that gives us confidence he will be a major contributor for the Dolphins in 2023 and beyond.

“The Dolphins are pleased to be able to bring another Queensland product back to their home state to be part of a historic time for the club.”
