The Redcliffe community is celebrating a remarkable double milestone as beloved local dance icon Sharon Alback marks both her 90th birthday and 70 years of marriage to husband Joe.

Last month, Sharon enjoyed a high tea at Reid’s Place, surrounded by family and friends in honour of her 90th birthday.

This week, she and Joe proudly celebrate seven decades of marriage - a testament to their enduring partnership and deep connection to each other and the Redcliffe Peninsula community.

Together, Sharon and Joe have built a large and vibrant family - five children, 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dance has been woven through their family story, with every generation having danced or continuing to dance today.

More than 73 years ago, Sharon took over her dance teacher’s studio in Redcliffe, transforming the former Sylvena School of Dance into what is now the Sharon Alback Dance Centre.

Her dedication to nurturing young dancers has made her a cherished figure in local performing arts. Though she has now hung up her teaching shoes, Sharon remains actively involved - most recently completing sewing costumes for the studio’s annual concert.

As part of their milestone celebrations, Sharon and Joe were honoured to receive congratulatory letters from His Majesty the King, the Prime Minister of Australia, and the Premier of Queensland - recognising their extraordinary 70-year marriage and enduring contribution to the community.

Sharon and Joe have called the Redcliffe Peninsula home for 65 years, witnessing its many changes while maintaining a steadfast love for the community they helped shape.

“We wouldn’t live anywhere else,” they say.
