Encircle is honouring R U OK? Day, with Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre set to host a free mindful morning tea, offering connection and support to the community.

The morning tea will be held on Thursday, September 14 – the actual day of R U OK? Day – from 10am-noon at Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre.

Encircle Community Development Worker Pina Asekona says the centre supports the day every year to raise awareness within the community.

“We support R U OK? Day every year to remind the Moreton Bay community that while there is a spotlight on it for just one day, every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’” Pina says.

Enter your comfort zone with soothing teas, delightful treats and the opportunity to connect with the community over heartwarming conversations.

Encircle is giving the Moreton Bay community the opportunity to share stories, laughter and support with each other.

“Participants can expect to connect to their local community, using R U OK? Day to check in and start a meaningful conversation. We have a strong focus on mindfulness activities this year.”

The mindfulness activities will be run by Neami National, which is a community-based organisation providing mental health services in Strathpine.

There will be collaborative diamond art and Mandela colouring-in activities, plus take-home mindfulness handouts.

“We speak with people every day who are not ok. Whether they are homeless, facing housing crisis, need food hampers, or experiencing loneliness, isolation or family violence. Many people are doing it tough. R U OK? Day reminds us of the importance of a conversation, and the power of a connection formed in that moment.”

People who wish to head to the morning tea are being asked to RSVP on 07 3889 0063.

The Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre is located at 865 Gympie Rd, Lawnton.

If you or someone you know needs support, there are plenty of resources such as the Chit Chat Channel, tips on how to start a conversation, real stories and more on the R U OK? Day website
