Environmental grants now open for Moreton Bay community groups

Community groups across Moreton Bay can now apply for grants of up to $50,000 to support local environmental and wildlife projects.

The City of Moreton Bay’s Our Healthy Environments Grants program is open for applications until 31 March 2026, with funded projects required to start on or after 1 June 2026 and be completed within 12 months.

The grants are aimed at projects that protect and enhance local habitat, native wildlife and conservation areas.

Last financial year, council distributed $186,000 across six projects, supporting initiatives such as habitat restoration, endangered species monitoring and community-led conservation programs.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the grants were designed to help community groups turn environmental ideas into action.

“These initiatives have engaged community groups to restore habitat, monitor and protect endangered species, and much more,” he said.

Previous project at Sheep Station Creek

One of last year’s recipients, Friends of Parks Queensland Inc, received $33,993 to establish the Friends of Sheep Station Creek community network.

The project, led by ecological professionals, focused on encouraging nature volunteering and strengthening links between volunteers, experts and council. Activities included weed control, citizen science events, wildlife monitoring and conservation training.

Friends of Parks Queensland Executive Officer Jessica Lovegrove-Walsh said the conservation park plays a key role in protecting threatened species.

“The legacy of this project will be to have an active and engaged community looking out for the conservation of Sheep Station Creek Conservation Park,” she said.

The park spans more than 200 hectares and provides critical habitat for endangered Greater Gliders and koalas.

Information session in February

Community groups interested in applying can attend an information session at Kumbartcho Environment Centre on 27 February 2026 from 10am to 12pm.

The session will provide guidance on eligibility and how to submit an application. You can register your interest online.
