More than 1800 senior citizens were treated to a range of events, activities, and information sessions at the 2024 Dickson Senior’s Expo, which was held at Brendale’s South Pine Sports Complex this week.

Now in its 20th year, the expo was an opportunity for retirees and those nearing retirement to access valuable information about community activities and services.

It was hosted by Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton and the Dickson Senior’s Council – a committee he formed in 2004 after winning the election in 2001.

During his welcome address, Mr Dutton highlighted the expo’s success and growth.

“This is an amazing event, and it continues to grow each year,” he said.

He also praised all the exhibitors and volunteers for their dedication.

Some of the key highlights included workshops led by industry experts, such as scams and fraud by the Office of Fair Trading, Centrelink services made easy by CAPA, and touring in Australia by Cross Country Tours.

Multiple stallholders including retirement communities, social clubs, travel providers, health and wellness services, as well as Federal, State, and Local Government services, were also in attendance.

Former Noosa Shire Mayor and Barrister Clare Stewart was chosen as the guest speaker, inspiring others with her resilience and achievements.

Despite a catastrophic accident, Clare continued her career, becoming a solicitor with the Supreme Court of NSW in 2001 and a Barrister in Queensland in 2008.

She is also a published author, keynote speaker, wife, and mother.

Attendees were also treated to a musical performance by award-winning vocalist Craig Martin.
