Family First has disendorsed its 2025 Federal Election candidate for the seat of Longman over pro-white and anti-LGBTQ+ social media posts.
Malachi Brogden Hearne, 19, is contesting the LNP-held seat and will still appear on the ballot paper as a Family First candidate because he was dumped after nominations had closed.
Family First Party Leader Lyle Shelton told 6 News the candidate’s post were not acceptable.
“We’re a family party. We believe in morality and pro-family values. This particular individual had some social media commentary that he didn’t disclose to us. He hadn’t been honest on his preselection form,”
"If you're talking about salmonella and penises, I'm not interested in candidates who want to put that stuff on public social media platforms," he said.
He said he also objected to other social media comments he's seen about women who have abortions being degenerate.
“I don’t agree with that. I think that women who find themselves with unsupported pregnancies need all the support society can give them.
“This sort of commentary by someone who, quite frankly, should have known better is not acceptable to our party.
“Yes, it’s regrettable that this wasn’t discovered until after the close of nominations, but we won’t tolerate that sort of thing.”
In a livestream on Youtube, titled Disendorsed For Being Christian, Brogden Hearne accused Shelton of lying.
He says he was informed he was being disendorsed the day nominations closed and it was made public the following day.
“How could that do that to me, how could they do that to poor, little old me,” he said.
“I thought we were supposed to be the Christian party.”
He suggested on X that “Family First should change their name to Family last”.
