Farnworth on future at Dolphins and facing Warriors

There’s been plenty of speculation Dolphins fan favourite Herbie Farnworth will be a target for the new NRL expansion team in Western Australia, coming off contract in 2026.

Farnworth was asked, after training today, if he’d be keen to play for the Bears given Perth is a little closer to England than Redcliffe and the club is expected to attract plenty of interest from other ex-pats.

“It’s always nice to be wanted by different clubs, especially (new) teams coming in, but I’m very happy at the Dolphins. We’ve got some great players here and I think I would be a bit silly to pass up on an opportunity to play with the likes of Jackie Bostock in the next couple years and Izzy Katoa and all these sorts of great young players coming through,” he said.

In the meantime, he says he will continue to focus on his footy.

“If you’re playing good footy it takes care of all that sort of stuff,” he said.

Farnworth said he would ‘definitely’ like to stay at the Dolphins if he gets the opportunity.

“I’m sure we can get a deal done,” he said.

Farnworth said he was looking forward to playing against the Bears in the years to come and wanted to be part of the Dolphins’ future with Kristian Woolf, the coaching staff and a crop of rising stars.

That squad of players and coaches will be looking to back up a gritty and hard-fought 20-16 win over the Eels in round 10 with a win over the Warriors on Saturday (3pm kick off) at Suncorp Stadium.

The Warriors are second on the ladder and are coming off a one-point win over the Dragons last round.

“With how we started the season, we’ve probably put a bit of pressure on ourselves to win these types of games. Obviously, that’s always the aim and we’re trying to build on what we did on Thursday night,” Farnworth said of the upcoming clash.

“Warriors at Suncorp is always pretty big as well.”

Farnworth said he was happy to help get the win for his side last week, playing down his own impressive performance – one try, one try assist, 195 run metres and seven tackle breaks.

“We’ve been working really hard. I think you saw how hard our middles were working in that game,” he said.

“There’s a lot of things I’ve got to improve on … I like to think I’m doing that. At the moment, the focus is on the team and getting those two points against the Warriors.”
