Abbey Museum is making history itself next weekend by taking a Journey Through the Ages to celebrate its 40th birthday.
The Abbey History Festival is being launched on September 26-27 by the team behind the award-winning Abbey Medieval Festival.
It follows a growing demand for historical experiences, which saw tickets for this year’s Abbey Medieval Festival, off Bribie Island Rd, completely sell out.
“If you love the Abbey Medieval Festival, we invite you to join us at Abbeystowe this September for an even deeper journey through history,” a Museum spokesperson said.
“With a smaller-capacity to bring visitors closer to the experience, guests are encouraged to don historical costumes and step through the gates into immersive worlds of the past.”
Tickets for the Abbey History Festival are on sale now via abbeystowe.com.
Supported by ERMS Group, visitors will go from Ancient Rome to the 20th Century through reenactments, performances, workshops, demonstrations, music and interactive experiences.
There will also be pockets of time ranging from the Nordic Realm and Pemberley Promenade to No Man’s Land (World War I), with reenactors, musicians and performers.
A Japanese ‘Echoes of the Rising Sun’ precinct will have workshops including calligraphy, origami, musical performances, presentations and demonstrations.
The Abbeystowe Market will create a bustling village atmosphere and a music hall will have everything from medieval jigs and Regency dances to traditional Japanese Awa-Odori.
Vintage aircraft will be in the skies above Abbeystowe with favourites such as the Stag Inn, Abbey Archery range and Birds of Prey below.
In the Lecture Hall, experts will give talks on ancient cultures, traditions, warfare, daily life, and the evolution of societies while children can check out the Kids Dig It! Kingdom.
Visitors can follow the Abbey Museum and Abbeystowe on Facebook and Instagram and their website.
