Gamers rejoice as new arcade opens
Words by Ashleigh Howarth

A new arcade featuring 70 games, a drift Dodgem car track and a laser frenzy maze has opened in Moreton Bay.

Following months of renovations, iPlay Australia opened the doors to its newest venue at Morayfield Shopping Centre on Friday, December 9.

The 1000sq m arcade can be found at the back of the shopping centre’s food court next to Limelight Cinemas, which is also set to open this month.

iPlay Australia CEO Bala Cherukooru told Moreton Daily the venue has plenty of unique features for gaming enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy.

“We have some unique attractions which gamers are really going to enjoy,” Bala said.

“In terms of attractions, we have the dodgem cars which will be quite popular. This is the largest bumper car track we have, and it was imported from Italy.

“There are 12 cars for people to drive, and there is also music and lots of lights for the riders to enjoy.

“Another big attraction we have got here in Morayfield is the laser frenzy maze. Like the movie Mission Impossible, you go and do a heist and make your way through the maze around the different laser beams to reach the target.

“We will also be installing a very big carnival game. Due to logistics, we are expected to have this game by the end of the month.

“That will be a five-player game where each player has to shoot water into a target to win a prize.”

The arcade also features a mixture of new and old school games, including air hockey, basketball hoops, claw machines, racing games, spinning wheels and more.

Select your own prizes

“The prize shop we have here at Morayfield is the biggest prize shop in all of our iPlay stores,” Bala explained.

“Unlike traditional arcades where you go up to the counter and a staff member gives you your prize, you can actually walk into our prize shop and touch, feel and look at what prizes you would like to win once you have redeemed your points.

“It’s essentially like our own little retail store.”

Private function rooms

iPlay Morayfield also has two private function rooms that can cater for birthday parties, corporate events, school outings and other special celebrations.

“The party rooms are on the mezzanine level, so they are nice and private,” Bala said.

“Each room can accommodate up to 30 people, so people can have their food upstairs and then go down and play all the games and attractions.”

Boost for the economy

The opening of iPlay Morayfield has also been great for the local economy, with 20 people gaining employment.

“All of the staff are from the local area, within a 10km radius to the store,” Bala says.

“We did bring in one of our most experienced managers from another store who will be relocating to the region to run this venue.”

Join their grand opening celebrations

The arcade will be hosting an official grand opening celebration on Saturday, December 17, with everyone from the community invited to head on down.

“We had planned to open on December 15, but are thrilled to have opened one week early,” Bala said.

“I have to give a lot of credit to the team because due to the busy Christmas period we had a very tough deadline to meet, and there were a lot of challenges put against us.

“We got team members in from other states to come and help us, so I want to thank them for helping us get iPlay Morayfield open in time for the school holidays.

"We know the community were really excited to see us open because there were lots of comments and messages on Facebook.

“To celebrate iPlay Morayfield opening, we will be having a grand opening celebration on December 17.

“For that day only, we will have double dollars, which is only available here at iPlay Morayfield. So, if you load your card with $50 you will get $100 to use on the games.”

The day will also feature appearances by Pikachu and Elsa as well as balloon twisters.
