Growing opportunities for job seekers
Published 9:00am 1 September 2024
A free community event aimed at helping young people and job seekers find work in the agriculture industry will be held at Lawnton this week.
Representatives from more than 20 organisations will be on hand to share insights into the industry, as well as talk about the various training and employment opportunities when the Everything Ag - Moreton Bay Agriculture Field Day is held at the Pine Rivers Showground on September 4.
Queensland Agriculture Workforce Network officer for South East Queensland, Amy Nash, says the event is a fantastic way for locals to discover how agriculture can be a fulfilling and sustainable career choice.
“The event is designed to highlight the many career opportunities within the agriculture industry and its supply chains,” Amy says.
“Visitors will have the chance to meet with local businesses training pathways, employment opportunities, as well as connect with industry representatives showcasing resources and support available to agribusinesses.
“It’s crucial for the sustainability and growth of the agriculture industry that we attract more workers. As the backbone of our food supply and rural economy, agriculture needs skilled and motivated individuals to continue innovating and maintaining our agricultural heritage.
“By showcasing the diverse career pathways available, Everything Ag aims to inspire the next generation to join this rewarding and essential industry, ensuring its continued success and contribution to our society.”
The day will also feature a variety of hands-on activities and market stalls.
“Attendees can look forward to a vibrant, market-style field day with a variety of engaging displays, including live animals, machinery, and a range of food and beverage vendors,” Amy says.
This is the second time it has been held in Moreton Bay.
The event is supported by the Queensland Agriculture Workforce Network South East Queensland, the Food and Agribusiness Network, Queensland Farmers’ Federation, Workforce Australia, School to Industry Partnership program, the Queensland Government, and the City of Moreton Bay.
The Queensland Agriculture Workforce Network is a Queensland Government funded, industry delivered initiative.
The Industry Workforce Advisor program is also funded by the Queensland Government as part of the Good people, Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032.
