Caboolture Military Museum will host a morning of special events to celebrate our national flag on Saturday.

Based at Caboolture Historical Village, there will be a program of mounted troop drills, addresses and raising of four flags to mark Australian National Flag Day.

Bob Whitehouse, a Life Member of the Australian National Flag Association, started Flag Day celebrations at Caboolture Historical Village in 2005.

Mr Whitehouse will MC Saturday's ceremony at the military museum, which has memorabilia from World War I to the present day.

Events begin just after 9am with museum tours, a history of the 11th Light Horse troop and display of a general service wagon, restored by the troop in 2008.

Four flags raised

B Squadron of the AAVC Commemorative Troop will do the first of two displays before the flag raising ceremony begins at 10.45am.

There will be an address on the history and significance of the flag and raising of four flags by soldiers from the 9 Royal Queensland regiment Caboolture and AAVC troops.

Councillor Adam Hain will speak on what it means to be Australian and Ronda Nix OAM on the Order of Australia.

A recitation of the poem ‘Our Flag’ will be followed by the National Anthem and conclusion of the ceremonies.

Australian National Flag Day, which was first held in 1901, marks the history, significance and importance of our flag.

“The flag is a powerful symbol of pride, bringing together Australians irrespective of location, background, culture, faith, age or gender,” she said.

"This Australian National Flag Day I encourage all Queenslanders to fly or display the flag while reflecting on what it means to be Australian."

Caboolture Historical Village is at 280 Beerburrum Rd, Caboolture, open 9am-4pm. Entry $15 adults, $7 child, $11 concessions. Phone 5495 4581.
