Tickets for Abbey Medieval Festival on sale now

Tickets to the much-loved Abbey Medieval Festival and Friday Family Fun Day are on sale now, with people urged to get in early to avoid disappointment.

The festival has been a popular event on the Moreton Bay calendar for years, attracting thousands of history buffs to the city to experience what life was like in the Middle Ages in Europe and the Middle East from 600 to 1600AD.

It is held at a fictional place called ‘Abbeystowe’, which is an open field near the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in Caboolture.

Here is what you can expect at this year’s events:

Friday Family Fun Day

This one day sensory-friendly day has been designed to allow local families the opportunity to experience a taste of the festival without the sensory overstimulation.

This will be held on Friday, July 5 from 9.30am-1.30pm.

Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the Moreton Bay Medieval Joust Championship (which is included in your entry ticket), plus Birds of Prey, combat demonstrations, storytelling workshops, and live performers.

A number of encampments will also be open to the public with activities and presentations, whilst others will demonstrate their set-up process, so you can watch the village come to life from afar.

Kids will also enjoy the archery range and can make their own shield in the Kids Kingdom.

Abbey Medieval Festival

This year’s event will be held over two big days on July 6-7.

The much-loved event is one of Australia’s premier living history events, presented by the Abbey Museum of Art and Archeology in Caboolture together with re-enactors, jousters, performers, food vendors, merchants and more.

The highlight of the festival is the Moreton Bay Joust Championship, which will see Australia’s top jousters face off in a round robin format. 

There will be three sessions on both Saturday and Sunday.

Points are accumulated to the scoring criteria, then the three highest scoring jousters will battle in the grand final on Sunday at 3pm to crown the new 2024 Moreton Bay Medieval Joust Championship champion!

Other highlights of the event include Birds of Prey, sword fighting, archery, Turkish oil wrestling, the cannon fire, as well as more than 250 live demonstrations, more than 300 re-enactors, and more than 65 food vendors.

A general admission day pass to the Abbey Medieval Festival starts at $55 for adults, $39 for concession, $29 for children aged between 5-14, and $149 for a family pass which can include two adults and two children, or one adult and three children.

Children under the age of five are free. Please add the ticket to your cart so organisers can monitor capacity.

Companion tickets are free when accompanied with a paid ticket holder.

General admission weekend passes start at $85 for adults, $65 for concession, $39 for children, $215 for a family pass.

Tickets are strictly limited and are expected to sell out fast. Once these sell out, tickets revert to final release prices! Tickets will be available on the ticket page of the website.

A ticketing fee is added on to every purchase. 

VIP tickets provides patrons with exclusive VIP parking close to the festival site, priority entry through your own VIP gate at 8.30am, exclusive access to the VIP area overlooking the joust arena where you will be served authentic food and drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and up-close and personal interactions with the jousters, entertainers and more.

VIP tickets are priced at $225 plus a ticket fee.

Joust tickets must be purchased as an extra add-on when purchasing admission passes and are $7.50 each.

There will be three joust sessions held on both Saturday and Sunday at 10.45am, 1pm and 3pm.

A Knighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, July 5 at 6pm, with tickets to go on sale in May. This will be an additional $12.50 plus ticket fee.

Tickets to the banquet will also be sold separately in May.

The Abbey Medieval Banquet will be hosted at the Great Hall at St Michael’s College near Caboolture on Saturday, June 29.

This will include an evening of feasting, entertainment, music, pageantry and dance.

Tickets are limited and will be $129 for general admission and $149 for premium.

Premium tickets are located closest to the High Table of the esteemed guests and are for those who want the best view and cushioned comfort.

Important things to know

• VIP Tickets are extremely limited and sell out within minutes.

• Tickets for the Friday Family Fun Day will be sold on a separate link which will be available on the Abbey Medieval Festival website.

• Don't forget to add your Joust session at the time of booking. After you select your tickets, go to the second page to purchase your joust tickets. These sell quickly!

• You can preorder a program and 2024 collector pin for pick up at the festival.

• Tickets for the Medieval Banquet, Kids Dig It Medieval Week and Knighting Ceremony will be released later, around early May.

Getting there

The Abbey Medieval Festival and Friday Family Fun Day is held at ‘Abbeystowe’, an open field near the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in Caboolture.

The address is 1-63 The Abbey Place, Caboolture.

Abbeystowe is roughly a 45-minute drive from Brisbane via the Bruce Highway. Patrons driving from Brisbane should take the Caboolture-Bribie Island exit off the Bruce Highway, then move into Bribie Island exit 152A. Head for Bribie Island, following the signs for the Abbey Medieval Festival and turn left onto Old Toorbul Point Road.

If you are coming from the Sunshine Coast, take Pumicestone Road, Toorbul/Donnybrook exit 157 off the Bruce Highway, drive 1km east along Pumicestone Road and turn right onto McGarry Road. Follow the signs for the Abbey Medieval Festival.

The Abbey Museum has secured a property nearby (on Pumicestone Rd) where patrons can park and shuttle buses will transport you on the five-minute trip to the festival site. (If you’re a local you may know this as the old Farm Fantastic site).

Organisers encourage patrons to go directly to the Pumicestone Rd car park (just off the highway) and catch the free shuttle bus from there.

For GPS directions, enter 530 Pumicestone Rd, Elimbah and head in this direction and you’ll see the parking signs just nearby.

Dedicated disabled parking will be available on site at the St Michaels school car park.

As you near the museum you will see signage diverting you to the left. It is 250m from the festival entrance.

Please have your permit on display for access.

Follow all directions in your GPS to the Abbey Museum.

If you are visiting by train, there is a direct train departing from Brisbane Central station arriving at Caboolture station operating every day. The journey takes approximately 47 min. For timetable information go to the Translink website.

A courtesy bus service from Caboolture Train Station from Walter Street to the Abbey and return will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. The first bus leaves Caboolture for Abbey at 7.45am. Buses run throughout the day in 30-minute time slots with the last bus departing Caboolture at 5.15pm and the last bus departing Abbey is 5.45pm.
