Iconic musical to wow audiences
Words by Ashleigh Howarth

ONE of the world’s longest-running musicals will be thrust back into the spotlight for Moreton Bay residents to enjoy this February.

A cast of actors and musicians, under the guidance of producers Lynch and Paterson, will perform their rendition of the hit stage production Les Misérables at Redcliffe Entertainment Centre from February 18-27.

North Lakes local Lucas D. Lynch is one half of Lynch and Paterson producers – a production company he formed a decade ago with friend Samantha Paterson, whom he met at Redcliffe Entertainment Centre.

Their love of theatre prompted them create their own company with the aim of producing shows for everyone to enjoy, as well as helping up-and-coming artists get onto the stage.

It's show time

With a stellar cast of 27 actors from across South East Queensland, Mr Lynch said Les Misérables would be a “ripper of a show”.

Les Misérables is such a coveted show and is loved by millions all over the world, so we are excited to be putting our own little stamp on this much-loved musical,” he said.

“There’s a big expectation for audiences when they see Les Misérables because it is such a powerful story, and I know our cast will do it justice because they are all so talented.

“Normally, with a production of this magnitude, it can take anywhere between three to six months to prepare, but our cast and crew are doing it in 10 weeks.

“Their rehearsals are just getting better and better, so I am adamant we can pull this together and give the audience a show that is out of this world.”

Accompanying the actors will also be a live 20-piece orchestra featuring the Cadenza Chamber Players.

“The soundtrack to Les Misérables is such an unbelievable score, and by having a 20-piece orchestra there instead of playing a background track just adds that little extra something to the performance,” Mr Lynch said.

“I will be conducting the orchestra on the night, and I want the music to sink into people’s soul, right from the first note to the very last.”

Loved by audiences worldwide

Since its global premiere in Paris in 1980, Les Misérables has been performed in more than 40 countries and in 22 languages, bringing author Victor Hugo’s revolutionary novel to life.

Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict who spends a lifetime seeking redemption.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, amidst the French Revolution, this timeless story of intertwined destinies reveals the power of compassion and the quiet evil of indifference to human suffering.

As Valjean's quest for a new life carries him into Paris and to the barricades of the Student Revolution, he is hunted by Inspector Javert and the ghosts of his past.

Amidst a battle for the soul of Paris, he discovers the true meaning of love and salvation.

A total of 12 shows will be held at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre, including four matinees.

Tickets are $59.90 for adults, $54.90 for concession, $34.90 for children aged 2-12 years, and $55 each for groups of 10 or more (booking fees apply).
