Indulge in a little Motown at the Eatons Hill Hotel
Published 2:00pm 26 July 2022
Music lovers will have the chance to indulge in some of their favourite Motown and R&B songs this weekend, with the award-winning band Sex and Chocolate taking to the stage at the Eatons Hill Hotel.
The band, made up of singers Paul and Ani Thompson, along with Maihi Pinker, William KareKare and Jamie Elkington, will take the audience on a musical journey on Saturday, July 30.
Ani Thompson, who is the manager of the band and the female performer of the group, told Moreton Daily the show is a mixture of timeless classics from the Motown era to the hits of the new millennium.
“It’s a fun night out where you can relive the old-school authentic Motown experience with a two-hour show that is full of high energy singing and dancing by a band that will rock your socks off,” Ani says.
“The first act is an hour of nothing but Motown where we perform hits from The Temptations, which is our all-time favourite band, as well as The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye.
“The second act is a mix of Motown, contemporary R&B, soul and disco, including hits from the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, Earth Wind and Fire, as well as Barry White.
“We love all the songs that we perform, but My Girl is a crowd favourite.
“At the end of the song we get a few people up on stage to sing and wiggle with us. It’s a lot of fun.
“At the end of the night, we finish with a high energy Temptations/Four Tops Motown Medley which was originally performed in 1983 at the Motown 25.”
According to Ani, the dancing doesn’t just happen on stage.
“We can’t stop the audience dancing because the music is just so contagious,” she says.
“They are up off their seats, dancing in front of the stage and to the side, and even dancing at the back – anywhere really where there is some space to move around.
“This is what makes us happy and the reason we do what we do.”
The singers will also be joined by an eight-piece live band.

How to book
Ani says this will be the first time Sex and Chocolate has performed at the Eatons Hill Hotel.
“We have heard great things about the Eatons Hill Hotel being voted Australia’s Best Venue, so we can’t wait to perform there,” she says.
The show will begin at 7pm in the Grand Ballroom.
Tickets to the show are $55 each and can be purchased here.
This is an 18 plus event.
