Students at the Australian Christian College Moreton stepped out of their comfort zone for the school’s volunteer day.

Fifty students spent time at two aged care homes in Caboolture to focus on others rather than themselves for Hands and Feet Day.

Thirty visited Regis Caboolture and 20 went to Sunnymeade Park Care Community to play board games and doing activities with residents.

Organising teacher Cameron Johnson said it was for students to “look beyond themselves and see through serving others we are served. It is joyful to serve”.

“The shift in attitude before the event to the feedback received after the event was quite stark,” he said.

“Students started a little apprehensive but at the end had such a great time and were asking to go back.”

Year 11 student Bobbie Politanski visited Regis Caboolture and admitted “not much had been said about the residents or what was to play out once we got there.

“But upon arriving we discovered its no longer about what we want to do, but we are to be a blessing to those in the aged care homes,” he said.

The 16-year-old said students saw "joy come to the faces of many residents and had the privilege to hear stories and testimonies from the lives lived well.

“We learnt the importance and value of time. We have a set amount of time on the planet and those people in the aged care homes lived theirs to the fullest.

"Just to have the time to speak with and share moments with others has become a blessing."
