Makenzi in final against 'best actors in world'

Posted: 12pm 15 Nov 2021

Teenager Makenzi Goodwin has won through to the global finals of the World Monologue Games - the largest acting showcase on the planet.

The 14-year-old from Mango Hill will be in the Youth Category on Saturday, November 20. Voting will be open for 48 hours following the live stream event.

“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when my name was announced as one of the winners,” said Makenzi, a student at the ROAR Performing Arts Academy, Redcliffe.

“This puts me up against the best actors in the world. You might say I’m feeling a little bit of pressure!”

Judging panel

The event is judged by industry experts from around the world including renowned actors, film directors and heads of international acting schools.

Over 100,000 viewers have already tuned in to the Qualifiers and Regional Livestream Finals, from which Makenzi qualified.

“I had two monologues make the regional finals and the monologue I made it through to the Globals with is “Those Jimmy Choo Shoes” by Tara Meddaugh,” the St Benedict’s College Year 9 student said.

“I am excited to have another chance to perform this monologue which is about a high school student who has been called into the principal’s office after being pushed to breaking point by another student.

Tough call

“I’m really excited despite the pressure and can’t wait to compete on the world stage!”

Event founder Pete Malicki said: “We have some incredible performers advancing to the Globals this year. I don’t envy the judges – picking the winners from each category is going to be one heck of a tough call!”

The Games has seen around 5000 performers from more than 100 countries register since its inception last year.

Only 95 competitors have made it to the Global Finals, which have six categories broken down by age group, experience level and monologue duration.

The World Monologue Games Global Finals will be livestreamed on the November 12-13 and 19-20.
