Parts of Youngs Crossing Road at Joyner will close at night for 10 days this month as part of work associated with an upgrade where it crosses the North Pine River.
City of Moreton Bay is working to upgrade Youngs Crossing Road to improve its flood immunity, safety and vehicle capacity.
The closures will pave the way for Unitywater to build a new section of sewer main across Youngs Crossing Road.
Since July, Unitywater has been working to relocate sections of its sewer main along Youngs Crossing Road to suit the new road and bridge alignment.
Most work will happen Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and the sewer main component of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Possible delays
The work is scheduled between September 8 and 20, Sunday to Thursday from 7pm to 6am.
During the night works a half lane closure will apply for the safety of motorists and contractors.
It will operate under the supervision of traffic controllers to allow for one-way reversible flow.
While traffic will still be allowed in both directions along Youngs Crossing Road, minor delays may occur.
During other times Youngs Crossing Road will continue to operate with two lanes open to traffic.
For motorist, pedestrian and crew safety, the speed limit within the construction zone is 40km/h during work hours.
Should delays occur, work will be rescheduled to the following week (starting Sunday 22 September).
What’s next
The upgrade to Youngs Crossing is now in the final stage of the construction procurement process.
The tender for new bridge and associated road works was released to a short-list, with submissions closing in August.
It is anticipated the successful contractor will be appointed by the end of the year, with construction expected to start in early 2025.
The new Youngs Crossing bridge and road is due to be completed around September 2026, pending confirmation of the successful contractor’s construction plan.
