Several Moreton Bay artists will feature in an upcoming Kilcoy Art Society exhibition that challenges painters to reinterpret works by some of history’s most recognisable masters.
The society’s annual Paint Like a Master exhibition, running across February and March, includes work from four Moreton Bay residents who are members of the Kilcoy Art Society.
They are Ellen Adriaansen, Darla Boyd, Jim Purcell and Kris Wheeler, each producing a piece inspired by a well-known artwork.
Ms Adriaansen has drawn inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night for her painting Uluru Dreaming, while Ms Boyd has produced a version of Edgar Degas’ After the Bath – Woman Drying Her Feet. Mr Purcell’s work references Jackson Pollock’s Free Form, and Ms Wheeler has created a piece based on one of Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s Rosalie paintings.
The exhibition features works from 18 artists in total, with tributes to a wide range of masters including Leonardo da Vinci, Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas and Jackson Pollock.
The exhibition opens alongside the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery’s new quarterly exhibition, with the official opening set for 2pm on Sunday, 15 February, on the Lakeside Deck at the gallery.
Visitors will also have the chance to hear directly from some of the artists during a Foggy Friday artist talk at 2pm on Thursday, 13 February, where participating artists will discuss their chosen subjects and techniques.
The exhibition is open to the public, with entry priced at $10, including afternoon snacks. The Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery will be open throughout February and March.
