Pay your respects on Anzac Day

Veterans and their families are preparing to commemorate Anzac Day with services across the region – in contrast to last year, when COVID-19 forced their cancellation.

Many of the services will be scaled back or have attendee numbers capped, and many Sub Branches are encouraging people to pay their respects from the driveways through ‘Light Up the Dawn’.

Here’s our guide to what’s happening across Moreton Bay on April 25.

Beachmere

Registrations are required for those who intend to join the March to pay their respects. Visit the RSL Deception Bay Sub Branch Facebook page to register. There will be a sausage sizzle on the lawn after the service.

Pay your respects on Anzac Day

Mango Hill

Commemorative Service

What: Mango Hill Progress Association will hold an Anzac commemoration with the 103 Army Cadet Unit from Morayfield.

When: April 21, 7pm

Where: The 20-minute ceremony is at the Mango Hill Community Centre, followed by the association meeting

Mount Mee

Dawn Service

When: 5.50am

Where: Mount Mee Lookout

Pine Rivers

Dawn Service

Numbers for the service are capped, with priority given to Veterans and their families. Norths Leagues Club will livestream the service. Veterans are invited to attend Gunfire Breakfast from 4.30am. The RSL encourages the community to commemorate Anzac Day as they did last year, through ‘Light Up the Dawn’ in their driveways.

Wreaths: The public can lay wreaths after the service from 6.30-7.30am

Samford

While the Samford RSL Sub Branch has made the difficult decision not to host services this year, it is encouraging the community to pay their respects through ‘Light Up the Dawn’ in their driveways.

Sunrise Service conducted by Samford Anglican Church

Where: Camp Mountain Lookout, off Mt Nebo Road

Samford Museum Anzac Commemoration

What: War Memories' in the former Grovely Station features local Servicemen and Servicewomen who have served in all conflicts. Free treasure hunt for children from 9am-1pm. Anzac biscuits, hot damper, billy tea coffee available to buy.
