Plugging region into EV grid

Motorists in the Moreton Bay region are a step closer to having up to 10 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Moreton Bay City Councillors have backed moves to “enter into an agreement” with a recommended tender for the EV chargers.

Further details have not been released other than the “location of the sites is still being finalised with the vendor”.

“Council has approved the contract with the vendor,” a Council spokesperson said. “As soon as locations are agreed, the vendor can commence installation of the chargers.”

Council invited expressions of interest (EOI) for EV chargers to be “supplied, installed, owned and operated by the vendor with no cost to Council”. 

The EOI was used to shortlist three vendors and issue a tender to the market.

“There has been an increasing popularity of electric vehicles,” the Council spokesperson said.

“Local charging stations can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and support sustainable transport options.

“The provision of adequate charging facilities across the City will encourage EV adoption, support local businesses, and contribute to a more sustainable future for communities.

“By facilitating investment in EV infrastructure, Council continues to position itself as a leader in the shift towards cleaner energy and more sustainable practices.”

The spokesperson said having more EV chargers is a Council initiative as it is “committed to net zero emissions for Council operations by 2039”.
