Police extend CBD operation

The first three months of a police operation in Moreton Bay region has led to almost 170 charges being laid.

Operation Xray Grader, which started on April 29, is tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in Caboolture CBD.

It is focussing on areas including King St and the train station, bordered by Elliott, George and Bertha Streets.

Police have so far charged 123 people with 168 offences and the operation will now continue until the end of the 2025.

It has seen a boost in proactive patrols, including high visibility and covert, foot, mobile and bike patrols, wanding and engagement with businesses and community members.

During the first three months of the operation, police also completed 1694 street checks and issued 99 Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs).

Of the 168 charges, 36 people were charged with drug offences, 15 with stop steal offences, five with weapons offences and two people with assault offences.

Other charges included unlawful entry of premises, public nuisance, trespass and obstruct police offences.

“It’s vital the community, including individuals and business owners, are safe and feel safe,” Moreton District Officer Chief Superintendent Adam Guild said.

“The successful outcomes and positive feedback received from the community, has led to us extending the operation until the end of the year.

“Beyond that, we’ll be working on integrating an ongoing long-term strategy focused on proactive prevention and disruption of crime and antisocial behaviour in the precinct.

“This strategy will be designed in collaboration with 150 local businesses who have been invited to provide feedback on the best way forward.

“We’ve been receiving great feedback from the community and business owners with an increased police presence in the CBD area making them feel safer.”
