A crime scene has been declared in Arana Hills following a police involved shooting this afternoon.
Officers called to an Akebia Street address to conduct a welfare check.
Around 12.30pm police were trying to speak with the man when an altercation occurred and he was shot.
Officers provided first aid at the scene, before the man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
