Since the guns fell silent on the Western Front on November 11, 1918, Australians have observed one minute of silence at 11am on November 11 - Remembrance Day.
This Friday, the Moreton Bay community will again pause and pay their respects to those who have bravely fought for our country at services across the region.
Services will be held in Beachmere, Bribie Island, Caboolture, Dayboro, Deception Bay, Kallangur, Redcliffe, Samford and Woodford.
In the lead up to Remembrance Day, members from the Beachmere RSL have been selling poppy pins and other military memorabilia, such as coffee mugs, games of Two Up and special collector items such as Sands of Gallipoli, at Morayfield Shopping Centre.
Dave Appleby from Beachmere RSL (pictured above) says they have been kept busy with people stopping by to say hello and buy pins.
“It’s been pretty flat out,” Dave says.
“But that’s good, because all the money we raise here will go towards caring for veterans.
“We look after all the veterans in Beachmere.
“You can find us out the front of Best and Less right up until Remembrance Day.”
Dave told Moreton Daily the Beachmere Service was always well attended and he hopes that will be the case again on Friday.
“We do get a big turnout from the community who come to our services,” Dave says.
“For example, for Vietnam Veterans Day recently, we had about 600 people.”
