Shrek Jr to hit Redcliffe stage

Redcliffe Musical Theatre and ROAR Academy performers have been busy rehearsing for their upcoming production, which will be performed across four big shows at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre.

The cast has been rehearsing across three full days with director Madeleine Johns, choreographer Meredith Johns and vocal coach Josie Ross in two holiday workshops, where they practice learning the songs, dialogue, blocking and dances for DreamWorks’ Shrek Jr.

Director Madeleine Johns says audiences can expect to be thoroughly entertained.

“The storyline is hilarious, the songs are upbeat and fun, the costumes are bright and colourful and a bit crazy – overall a fairy story with a twist and GREAT music,” Madeleine says.

Madeleine says she is most excited to showcase the incredible talent of her cast.

“I am most excited to show the level of talent of our young performers - and the expertise of the lead cast in particular – they are very seasoned and talented performers,” Madeleine says.

“Anthony Van Stam as Shrek on Saturday has been accepted into the conservatorium for classical voice commencing his studies this year. His brother Lucas will take on the role for the Sunday shows. Lucas is also a talented singer and musician studying in the young conservatorium choir and learning the saxophone.

“Abbie Gommers and Zoe Hitchcock as Fiona are both seasoned performers with many shows and roles under their belt at such a young age.

“Tyler Mackay plays Donkey on Saturday and Rory Argles on Sunday – both are very talented triple-threat performers with dance as a strong suit and both are great comedians.

“And Miguel Gambley playing Lord Farquaad in all shows is a brilliant young actor who will have the audience in absolute stitches at his antics as the very short – but villainous baddie! They may be young – but they’re incredible at what they do!

“To my production team and crew – a BIG THANK YOU for giving up your time and giving your expertise to help these young performers look great, sound great and make sure everything happens to support the production.”

The Redcliffe Musical Theatre’s production of Shrek Jr will be held on the following days:

Saturday, February 3 at 2pm and 6pm | Sunday, February 4 at 2pm and 6pm.

All shows will be held at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre at Downs St, Redcliffe.
