Three North Lakes mates are swapping cricket bats for golf clubs at the international X-League Championships this month.
Shane Myers, Paul Fraser and Jason Ash will join eight teams at the biggest indoor golf championships in Australasia, from August 30-31.
At the X-Golf Clyde North in Melbourne, they will face sides from such as Christchurch, Darwin and Perth in the southern hemisphere’s largest tech-powered golf competition.
“We’ve all played cricket together, outdoor and indoor, but age, injuries and family commitments meant it was getting harder to keep going,” said 45-year-old Jason.
“We started X-Golf as a bit of fun and just a year later, here we are playing for the national title!”
It’s an achievement more than 1000 X-League players chased when signing up for a season at one of X-Golf’s 32 Australasian hubs.
X-League runs three 10-week seasons a year, with teams competing across nine-hole handicap matches.
“Golf’s meant to be quiet but in X-League there’s plenty of laughs and sledging, just like cricket and that’s why we love it,” Jason said.
X-Golf’s Nick Treble says: “We’re proud to reimagine a sport we love and we value watching every-day golfers push themselves, improve and build communities around the game.”
Created by Melbourne-based brothers, Ben and Charles Styles, X-Golf simulators produce a game where golfers use cameras, lasers, impact sensors and infrared top track shots.
