The Hills are alive with festival sounds

Hills Festival returns this May to bring the Moreton Bay Region’s Hills District together for a fun-packed, month-long celebration that has something for everyone. 

Running throughout the whole month of May, this year’s edition of the much-loved annual festival will be bigger and better than ever, with over 35 local community events spanning four weeks of fun-filled activities, sports and well-being programs, rides, food, fireworks and more.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) CEO, Shane Newcombe has praised the entire Hills District community for supporting this year’s Hills Festival.

“Thanks to local community groups, businesses, organisations and Moreton Bay Regional Council we’ve got an amazing month of events as part of this year’s program,” said Mr Newcombe.

“From yoga classes and bracelet making to karaoke and pilates, there is something for everyone to get involved with.”

Festival favourite, Mother’s Day Music in the Park, returns to George Wilmore Park on Sunday 8 May for an afternoon of live entertainment, market stalls, children’s activities – everything mum needs to celebrate her special day.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the much loved Hills Festival program is back for its fifth year. It’s brimming with unique and varied activations across the Hills District.

“This family-favourite features low-cost rides, live music, children’s entertainment, kids zone, market stalls and a huge fireworks finale,” Mayor Flannery said.

“There’s something for everyone right through the month of May, but mark May 15 on the calendar now for Kids Carnivale, which will have free activities for the whole family to enjoy including face painting, big block building, wildlife experiences and kids craft.

“There’s also a number of sporting activations on various dates throughout the month, including Billy’s Buddies which is a ball sports program designed by rugby league legend Billy Slater that will be hosted at HT Ireland Reserve on May 4.”

Cr Matt Constance (Div 10) said the month-long celebration will come to a close with the Hills Carnivale on May 28.

“Council is thrilled to be running activations, such as The Hills: Kids Carnivale at Arana Hills Library on May 14,” Cr Constance said.

“The much loved Hills Under 5s Playtime in the Park is returning to Leslie Patrick Park on Friday 20 May. It will feature live stage shows and plenty of hands on activities. Best of all it’s free!.”
