Vale retired Police Dog Kaos

Police Dog (PD) Kaos who retired to Dayboro after seven years with Queensland Police Service, has passed away.

Kaos lived with his handler Senior Constable Jim Griffiths and was a regular at a café in Dayboro, lying in the sun and lapping up the attention of visitors.

PD Kaos unexpectedly died early on Saturday morning, surrounded by Snr Const Griffiths and his family.

In a statement Queensland Police said: “PD Kaos and Senior Constable Griffiths were best mates and a formidable team.

“With honour he served, and it was an honour to serve with him.”

During his years of service (2014 to 2021), PD Kaos and Snr Const Griffiths, worked with the Brisbane Dog Squad.

PD Kaos was recognised just last month with a Canine Service Medal for his outstanding service and bravery in the line of duty helping to bring countless offenders to justice.

A significant moment in his career came when he was seriously injured during the arrest of two offenders in Gordon Park on February 2, 2020.

PD Kaos underwent extensive surgery after receiving a 12-centimetre stab wound to the chest during the arrest. He recovered and returned to work a month later.

In 2021, PD Kaos was also awarded the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia Outstanding Canine Service Award for outstanding service and bravery.

The Outstanding Canine Service Award is the highest honour for a German Shepherd in Australia.

PD Kaos retired in July 2021 and though fierce while tracking offenders at work, off-shift, he was a sweet and soft soul.

Apart from making friends at the Dayboro café, PD Kaos was a regular at Queensland Children’s Hospital bringing joy, love and cuddles to sick children.
