A major funding commitment of $2.4 billion has been welcomed as “fantastic news for Queensland and City of Moreton Bay”.
The deal between the Federal and State Governments will provide housing enabling infrastructure, such as road, water and sewerage upgrades, in three Priority Development Areas (PDAs) including Waraba.
It will support the infrastructure needed to deliver more than 16,000 new homes within the Waraba (formerly Caboolture West) PDA to mid 2034.
“This is fantastic news for Queensland and City of Moreton Bay, as one of the fastest growing council areas in Australia,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.
“The funding will be vital in accelerating the delivery of homes at the new city of Waraba that will eventually have a population of 70,000 people.
“We thank the Federal and State Governments for investing in the critical infrastructure that is essential to deliver homes for this new community.
“With our population expected to grow to 1 million over the next 30 years, I can’t express enough how vital funding like this is when it comes to unlocking housing supply.”
Federal Minister for Housing Clare O’Neil said: “Thanks to this agreement we’ve reached, there will be thousands more Queenslanders getting the keys to their own home – many of them in Moreton Bay.”
Queensland Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie added: “Availability equals affordability and by providing funding to get the vital infrastructure like roads, water, sewerage and power in place, the builders can get building.”
