Bribie Island local Kiani Smith, also known as her stage name Kiani Jazz, was accepted into Australian Idol's audition round after applications opened last year. Her performance will air tonight on February 6.

The 17-year-old singer and songwriter has been creating music since the age of seven.

“My music career started at the age of seven, (where I) picked up my first guitar, which was the age I wrote my first song,” Kiani says.

“I started writing many more songs, gigging two years later, and since then I have performed gigs up and down the east coast of Australia. Competing in competitions and working with Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism. All of this has led me to where I am today, competing on Australian idol.”

Kiani says auditioning for Australian Idol was an “unreal experience.”

“All the amazing people I’ve met along the way, performing in front of the judges. Idol has made me a more confident and professional musician,” Kiani explains.

“Music has been my whole life, and I’ve been more than ready for this exciting step for years.

“I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am today, so being able to say I’m on Australian Idol makes me beyond proud of myself and proves that anything is possible no matter the age.”

Kiani’s journey into musical stardom has been supported by her parents every step of the way.

“My mum and dad are definitely my biggest supporters, being known as the Mumager and Dadager of Kiani. Pretty much my parents are my roadies and have got me to all my performances. Biggest thanks to them, as I wouldn’t be where I am today without them,” Kiani says.

When asked what advice Kiani would give to young performers in Moreton Bay, she says it’s important to not let anything get in your way.

“If music is something you are truly passionate about, don’t let anyone or anything stop you from going for it. Everyone is capable of achieving their dreams, just give it your all, get out there, and enjoy every minute,” Kiani says.

Tune into Australian Idol tonight to watch Kiani’s audition at 7.30pm on Channel 7 or 7Plus.
