COVID-19 LATEST: Lockdown to end

Moreton Bay Region and Brisbane City Council will come out of lockdown at 6pm tonight - despite eight new cases being reported in the last 24 hours across Queensland.

Three of the cases were in overseas quarantine already said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, adding that contact tracers are working to get on top of the five new community-acquired cases.

One involves a health care worker in her 50s from Everton Park who worked one shift at the Prince Charles Hospital, not in the COVID ward, while infectious.

Local sites

A number of sites in North Lakes, Griffin and Murrumba Downs were last night added to the the Close/Casual/Low Risk COVID lists, see below.

Others include one linked to the Portugal restaurant cluster, a Sunshine Coast man in his 50s who works at USC, Brisbane man aged 29 who travelled to Eumundi and Sunshine Beach and finally a baggage handler at Brisbane Domestic Airport.

The premier thanked residents for their response to the lockdown saying "I am so proud of you".

Extra time

"We are doing a lot of work with the contacts but we believe our contact tracers can get on top of those issues very carefully," said Premier Palaszczukz.

"For our Brisbane and Moreton Bay areas, can I thank everyone who did that extra day for us. It gave our contact tracers that extra time that was desperately needed.

"The lockdown will end at 6pm tonight but we are not out of the woods yet. We are all in this together and we have to have our trust in one another and act as a community together.

Key steps

"There are three key things. If you are sick get tested; wear your mask, these masks are mandatory; and your phone ... if you are going out you must check in.

"I am asking businesses, please do not let people into your business unless they have checked in. This is vital for our contact tracers."

Masks are still to be worn for the next 13 days (until July 16).

'Brilliant outcome'

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said having more than 25,000 people get tested yesterday was a "brilliant outcome". "It's really important, going forward, we get people tested," Dr Young said.

Yvette D'Ath, the State Health Minister and Member for Redcliffe, said masks and social distancing were essential as the regions came out of lockdown.

Steven Miles, the Deputy Premier, urged residents to keep registering using the QR Code and testing for COVID.

There are now 47 active cases in Queensland giving a total 1714 cases to date. Yesterday 25,141 COVID tests were conducted and 14,968 vaccines administered.
