One new community case of COVID-19 has been discovered in Queensland in the last 24 hours.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath, the State Member for Redcliffe, said it was a close contact of the aviation training facility worker from Eatons Hill.
However, the new community case is a man in his 50s living on the Gold Coast and as a result addition mask-wearing restrictions now apply to that council area.
'See what risk is'
Dr Jeanette Young said the man had two doses of vaccine and had been in the Gold Coast area while infectious.
“We need to work through and see what the risk is,” Dr Young said.
Gold Coast now joins Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Local Government Areas (LGAs) as areas where masks must be worn indoors and outdoors if social distancing is not possible.
New restrictions
There are also additional restrictions on access to hospitals, aged care facilities, disability and correctional services facilities on the Gold Coast.
A second case was reported, but the truck driver, who has visited the Gold Coast, tested positive in New South Wales and will be added to that state’s figures.
Minister D’Ath said the situation was being monitored “very closely” but the strain is linked to interstate and overseas cases, not any COVID cases in Queensland.
Minister D’Ath said Queensland now had 18 active COVID-19 nfections, 11,208 tests were carried out yesterday and 21,713 vaccinations administered.
'Today is the day'
To date, 64.85 per cent of eligible Queenslanders have now had the first dose of vaccine and 45.6 per cent have received two doses.
“Today is the day you should go out and get tested,” the minister said. “Don’t wait. This is how we protect our community.’
Dr Young said it was “really, really important” people were vaccinated adding the state had “plenty of vaccine”.
Police continue to check all vehicles and people entering the state.
